The new Recreational Rink and SkyRide Facility will sit on the south edge of Riverfront Park, set to the east and nestled amongst the existing London Plane trees of the Gondola Meadow. This placement creates a more enchanting, more visible recreational park experience for users, while still preserving much of the Gondola Meadow.
The Recreational Rink will consist of a 16’ wide and 650’ long ice ribbon with a 3,500 square foot attached pond. There will be a shared ticketing facility for ice skating and the SkyRide, along with party rooms and concessions. In the warmer months, the paved ribbon and pond can be used for programmed events like art walks or farmers markets, and for both programmed and un-programmed recreation.
CONSTRUCTION – Early 2017 – Fall 2017
Bidding for the project closed on December 5, 2016, a contractor was selected in January 2017 and construction is underway. The ice ribbon and shared ticketing facility for the SkyRide will plan to open this fall in time for ice skating.
